We’ve been posting about WordPress trends for 2020, and we’ve recommended updating your website for the new year. When should you do this?
With the holiday spending season past, the week between December 25 and December 31 is an excellent time for updating and maintenance. Many websites experience a significant drop in traffic, which makes the lull a perfect window of time for making changes or experimenting with new plugins.
Here are some ideas to consider as Web Week 2019 approaches.
You have many options for building and powering your website. Depending on what you use it for, your CMS solution may be sufficient. However, if you aren’t using WordPress, now is a good time to reassess your CMS solution. WordPress is the world’s most popular CMS. It now powers over 35% of the internet worldwide. There’s a reason for this. WordPress enjoys its popularity due to its easy-to-use intuitive platform.
Organizations of all sizes use WordPress successfully as their primary or secondary CMS. It is the go-to solution for companies looking to build out content hubs, eCommerce stores, corporate sites, and a wide range of other digital experiences that help differentiate their businesses online.
If you are already using WordPress, you may already know of the broad array of themes that are available to update the look and functionality of your WordPress website. A new theme can help with SEO and page loading speeds.
Many themes are based on the Genesis Framework, which is one of the most widely used frameworks for building WordPress themes. They’re also search-engine-optimized and mobile responsive, which means they load quickly on any device. Genesis-built themes also look great, and they’ve each been created for different use cases.
Maybe you’re already a devoted WordPress user, and your site is up and running without issue. Chances are, you’ve accumulated more than a couple of plugins along the way.
With nearly 55,000 free plugins available for download in the WordPress Plugin Repository, the options for tweaking and customizing WordPress sites have become almost limitless. But like any piece of software, plugins need regular maintenance to remain up-to-date, which can become tedious, especially if you have multiple plugins running at the same time.
If you’ve found yourself increasingly bogged down with plugin maintenance, Web Week could be a good time for you to install and set up a plugin manager or look for a third party to take on plugin maintenance. A plugin manager can automatically conduct plugin updates on a scheduled interval that’s customizable
Whatever you end up doing with your site during Web Week, just remember that it’s a great time to tweak and experiment with things you may have been curious about all year long.
