In our last blog post, we reviewed some basics for improving the performance of your WordPress website. Here, we follow with more sound practices to follow:
A Google robot scrapes millions of websites, and you need to ensure that what it sees on your website is optimized for SEO. Consider these two permalinks for a new blog post about WordPress support:
# 1 – ‘example.com/?p=123813225844’
The second has this permalink:
# 2 – ‘example.com/10-bestpractices-of-wordpress-support’
Google won’t interpret the permalink in #1, so you have to make it simple for those search engine robots to linger on yours. Use relevant permalinks by going to your WordPress dashboard. Go to settings>permalinks and then select Post Name. We recommend that you consult with an SEO expert prior to changing an existing site to avoid negative SEO implications. When you write your next post, your post URL will default to the page title.
Keep these WordPress tips in mind as well for SEO:
If you are pursuing a specific keyword, you can update that manually
Try YOAST SEO. This plugin will help you ensure that your SEO is optimized and you are staying focused on the keywords you want.
SEO changes rapidly, so stay up to date on the newest trends or use a specialist
Remember, Google rewards and punishes. Ensure that your content is useful, relevant, and valuable. SEO algorithms are designed to know the difference between quality content and fluff.
WordPress is designed for ease of use including sharing content. Some entrepreneurs have a “build it and the customers will come” mindset. But, building a thriving ecommerce site takes far more than that. You can try a marketing agency to run ads or manage SEO, but you may or may not see results other than a smaller checking account. Leverage the power of WordPress instead to drive visitors and conversions.
