WooCommerce Releases Much Anticipated Updates

On April 4, 2017, Mick Jolley, lead developer at WooCommerce made the following announcement:

“With great delight, I wish to inform you that WooCommerce 2.7 will be now versioned as 3.0.0. The new version of WooCommerce was expected to be released somewhere during February 2017. But, the development cycle itself was filled with a number experiments and errors. During the 2.7 beta testing phase, the WooCommerce team found a critical bug in the process of time stamps handling.”

Of course, in the short time since that announcement, the updates have been flowing. April 13 saw the release of WooCommerce 3.0.3. This is good news as the program comes with many exclusive features that revolutionize the world of eCommerce by giving store owners and developers complete control.

WooCommerce Updated Product Gallery

WooCommerce 3.0 now has a gallery for single product pages with new zoom, gallery view, and mobile features:

• Mobile friendly
• Galleries with multiple images
• open in a popup window
• Fully mobile-responsive
• You can easily manage all images and thumbnails

Performance Improvements

The two most important performance improvements are:

• New taxonomy under the name tag like product_visibility, post meta, featured products, and out of stock products.
• Reduced number of queries for up-sells and related products on the product and cart pages.

CRUD Classes Addition

CRUD stands for Create, Read, Update, and Delete. This allows the user to easily modify orders, products, customers, payment tokens, and much more.

New CLI Powered by the REST API

You can now manage your data faster with this update. WooCommerce 3.0  introduces a new command line interface (CLI) powered by the REST API. The previous CLI didn’t support the new CLI functionality, but now you can easily manage your data faster using the new CLI.

Other updates on WooCommerce 3.0 are:

• Automatic sorting of tax rates, which sounds like an awesome functionality.
• Improved log system for developers.
• User handling has been updated so that WooCommerce add existing users to the current store if the user already has a previous account within the same network.
• One other great improvement in the new WooCommerce update is that the cart and product percentage coupon types are now merged into a single method.

WooCommerce 3.0.1 Updates

The WooCommerce 3.0.1 fixes include among others:

• Show catalog hidden products within grouped products.
• Fade in the gallery in if no images are set or it’s custom.
• Use wc_deprecated_function in WC_Deprecated_Hooks so notices aren’t output in ajax requests.
• Added back the ability to include extra items to the System Status using the woocommerce_system_status_environment_rows filter.
• Coupon category restrictions and limits for variations.

WooCommerce 3.0.2 Updates

The WooCommerce 3.0.2 fixes include among others:

• Removed required states for GP, GF, KW, LB, MQ, RE and YT countries.
• Made cache in the [products] shortcode respect filters from plugins.
• Added missing woocommerce_cross_sells_columns filter.
• Fixed shortcode rendering on the shop page.
• Fixed incorrect sale dates when bulk editing variations.
• Fixed calls to wc_reduce_stock_levels in PayPal and Simplify gateways.

WooCommerce 3.0.3 Updates

The WooCommerce 3.0.3 fixes released on April 13 include among others:

• Fixed an issue with variation tax-classes when set to ‘parent’. This made taxes apply on top of the tax inclusive price in certain setups.
• Escaped attribute translations in the cart.php template and bumped the template version to match.
• Corrected the display of refund dates on the order screen.
• Fixed the grouped product visibility check in the grouped.php template and bumped the template version to match.
• Fixed the sale badge display for grouped products.
